The Broncos hope to ease Pro Bowl cornerback Aqib Talib back onto the field this week after a near two-month recovery.
Talib, who has been on the non-football injury list, suffered a gunshot wound to his right leg while in Dallas in early June. He missed the latter half of the Broncos’ organized team activities and has observed training camp practices from the sideline. Since coming off crutches, he has worked with the team’s training staff away from the field to maintain his strength and conditioning.
Any return would be in a limited capacity to start and would be dependent on a passed physical.
The investigation into the June 5 incident remains ongoing by Dallas police. According to the few details released in the incident report, Talib was shot by an “unknown” suspect. Depending on the outcome of the investigation, . The league says it is still reviewing the matter.
Talib was selected to his third Pro Bowl last season after finishing the year with 45 tackles (39 solo), three interceptions (two returned for touchdowns) and 13 pass breakups. His 30 career interceptions are the most of any cornerback since 2008, when he entered the league.
