More than 200 bullets fired from 18 weapons in Lower Downtown Denver gang shooting

Denver authorities now say more than 200 bullets were fired out of 18 weapons that left one man dead and another wounded.

The update was released Friday by Denver District Attorney Mitch Morrissey on his Facebook page.

Lynn Kimbrough, spokeswoman for the district attorney’s office, said on Monday that Morrissey has been keeping close tabs on the investigation into the July 30 shooting at 18th and Market streets.

more than 100 rounds were fired during the shootout, which happened between several gang members, including the two men shot.

Denver police on Monday declined to independently verify the details released by Morrissey, citing their ongoing probe of the shooting.

“This is an active investigation,” said Technician John White, a police spokesman.

Gailen Armstrong, 20, died during the gun battle, according to an autopsy that ruled the death a homicide. No arrests have been announced.

The shooting comes as Denver police , especially along the 16th Street Mall. More officers have been assigned to the area, and many are on foot patrol.

On any given weekend night, dozens of Denver police are working in LoDo, both on duty and as special security for the various restaurants and night clubs.
