Authorities are searching for the driver of a pickup truck that crashed Sunday morning in southeast Colorado, leaving a 68-year-old man dead.

The Colorado State Patrol says the crash happened on Otero County Road 21 south of La Junta around 10:30 a.m.

A 1990 Nissan pickup was heading southbound on the county road when it went off the right side of the route and rotated as it returned to the roadway, eventually rolling over to its side.

The State Patrol says it doesn’t know who was driving the pickup at the time of the crash because that person fled. The 68-year-old passenger, from Rocky Ford, died at the scene.

Authorities have not released the dead man’s name. He was not wearing a seatbelt, according to officials.

The crash remains under investigation. Anyone with information on the case is asked to call Trooper Art Gumke at 719-544-2424.
