Speed is believed to be a factor in a single-vehicle motorcycle crash Sunday morning in southern Colorado that left one person dead.

The Colorado State Patrol says the wreck happened on Interstate 25 in Las Animas County about 9:45 a.m. just a half-mile from the New Mexico state line.

Investigators say a 2012 Harley-Davidson Street Glide was traveling northbound on the interstate in the left lane when its operator failed to negotiate a right-hand curve and traveled off the left side of the road and into the center median.

“While in the center median, the driver of the Harley-Davidson was ejected as (the motorcycle) began rolling end over end,” the State Patrol said in a crash report. “The Harley-Davidson rolled two times and came to rest in the center median facing southeast.”

The driver, whose name, gender and age have not been released, was pronounced dead at the scene.
