The traffic stop began fairly routinely after a Colorado Springs police officer from the Gold Hill Division noticed a car’s headlight was off.
But when the officer pulled to a stop behind 32-year-old Brianne Martin’s car on Navajo Street and approached her open window at 12:40 a.m., she suddenly spat out a hard boiled egg. And things went downhill after that.
Martin volunteered that she was on felony probation. The car reeked of marijuana and she quickly produced a half-filled sandwich baggie of suspected marijuana.
Before long, police officers found a veritable pharmacy of suspected illegal drugs in her car: cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine and morphine pills, according to a Colorado Springs police report.
An officer who investigates drunken and drug-impaired drivers was called to the scene.
When officers checked Martin’s identification on computer, they learned that she did not have a valid driver’s license. She was arrested.
Based on the officer’s observations, the driver was detained to be evaluated by a DUI officer. Computer checks showed the driver did not have a valid driver’s license and had a felony Probable Cause Affidavit which needed to be served.
A large quantity of plastic baggies along with a scale were also recovered from inside the vehicle, the Colorado Springs police report says.
