A wildfire Wednesday burned about 80 acres of land in Berthoud, and firefighters are working to protect homes from spreading flames.
Deb Graves, spokeswoman for the Berthoud Fire Department, says the blaze is burning south of Carter Lake in Larimer County. At 3:30 p.m., officials say the fire was 55 percent contained.
“It is burning between Northview Road and Hertha Ridge Road,” Graves said.

Television helicopter images show the blaze nearing homes. Evacuations were ordered for some homes, but were lifted later Wednesday night, the fire department says.
Authorities say several fire agencies are responding to the fire and that there have been seven airplane drops of fire retardant or water. More air attack on the fire is expected.
