Shortly after Englewood police asked for help in identifying a person of interest in a child-luring case, a flood of tips began coming in. The photo of the person was a very clear close-up of his face.
Police have now identified the man, who wore rectangular black-framed glasses and a black shirt.
“Almost immediately we got tips from people saying they knew who the person is, giving his name and, in some cases, they provided his address,” said Sgt. Brian Cousineau , a spokesman for the Englewood Police Department.
On Monday, a man allegedly approached students near a school bus stop and made strange and frightening comments.
Someone snapped a photo, although police cannot say how the photo was taken or who took it because it’s part of the investigation.
The man is not in custody and has not yet been arrested, Cousineau said, because “a lot of loopholes have to be closed before we bring him in and arrest him.”
Timing is critical. Police have not informed the man that he’s identified as a suspect, “but if he follows the media,” said Cousineau, he’ll find out.
“Hopefully (things) will come to a resolution very quickly,” he said. “It’s a priority case for the investigations bureau.”
