Two men were rescued early Monday from North Maroon Peak near Aspen after becoming stranded Sunday above cliffs on the mountain.

The Pitkin County Sheriff’s Office says the two men were below the summit of North Maroon Peak at an elevation of about 12,000 feet. They had no water and little food.

Mountain Rescue Aspen was dispatched about 5 a.m. Monday, reaching the men about an hour later.

Rescuers technically lowered the stranded men over bands of cliffs — a distance of about 300 vertical feet — to safety. The rescue was concluded about 12:30 p.m.

Neither man was injured.
