The Denver medical examiner identified the man killed Sunday during a home invasion in southwest Denver’s Barnum neighborhood.

Frank Chavez, 53, was pronounced dead on the scene from a single gunshot wound, according to a news release Monday from the coroner’s office.

A second person, who has not been identified, was injured in the shooting and remains in intensive care at a hospital, said Cmdr. Barb Archer of the Denver Police Department’s major crimes unit.

Detectives are continuing to investigate at a home on the 100 block of South Knox Court, Archer said. They do not have a motive and do not believe the shooting was gang-related.

The suspects, who were armed with handguns, stormed their way into the house, Archer said. It appears the victims were targeted.

No suspects have been arrested.
