Man who fatally shot, buried neighbor’s dog in Gilpin County sentenced to probation

A man near the Gilpin County community of Rollinsville before burying it in a shallow grave has been sentenced to two years of probation, authorities said.

Eric R. Miller was also ordered to undergo anger management training and to complete 100 hours of community service, according to 1st Judicial District Attorney’s Office prosecutors.

In May, Miller, 54, was convicted of aggravated animal cruelty and theft in the case. Court records show he appeared before a judge for sentencing Friday.

 

 last fall, he removed its collar and buried it in a shallow grave, according to prosecutors. Authorities say he shot the dog —a 2-year-old Akita mix named Ragnar — because it had wandered onto his property.
