Two people were arrested by federal agents early Thursday in El Paso County as part of a multi-state investigation into drug and firearms violations, officials say.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives said it served several search and arrest warrants between 4 and 6:15 a.m. across three different locations.

“This is part of a multi-state federal investigation into drugs and firearms violations,” said Lisa Meiman, an ATF spokeswoman.

Meiman said the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office and Drug Enforcement Administration assisted in the operations. She declined to immediately release more information on the investigation, but said officials were planning to discuss the case further on Thursday afternoon.

The El Paso County operations were the only ones conducted by the ATF on Thursday in Colorado as part of the interstate probe, Meiman said.

The ATF did not identify the two people taken into custody.
