Authorities in Garfield County say DNA evidence has led to the arrest of a man and a woman in connection with a September stabbing.

Amy Kent and Delbert Willeford were arrested Thursday in Gonzalez County, Texas, where they are being held on charges from a Sept. 14, 2015, stabbing that happened in No Name, just east of Glenwood Springs.

The Garfield County Sheriff’s Office says five days after the stabbing, Kent and Willeford were arrested by the Colorado State Patrol in Chaffee County on unrelated charges. It was later discovered that DNA found at the scene of the stabbing matched the DNA of Willeford.

“This story demonstrates the value of DNA evidence in a case and exemplifies the collaborative effort demonstrated by several law enforcement agencies to find and apprehend these suspects,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement.

Garfield County officials say they worked on the case with the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, the Nixon (Texas) Police Department, the U.S. Marshal’s Service, the Gonzales (Texas) County Sheriff’s Office, the Missouri Department of Probation and Parole and the Gonzales (Texas) County Probation Department.

“The suspects will be returned to Garfield County to face charges by the 9th Judicial District based on the evidence that was collected and the efforts of all parties involved,” the sheriff’s office said.

Details on the stabbing were not immediately released.
