Driver accused of trying to kill passenger in Boulder car crash takes plea deal

Former pro skateboarder George Pappas to serve up to 16 years in prison

The driver accused of crashing into a traffic-signal pole in Boulder in what police said accepted a plea deal this morning that could put him in prison for up to 16 years.

George Pappas, 51, pleaded guilty in Boulder District Court to second-degree assault and vehicular assault. As part of the deal, attorneys agreed that Pappas will be sentenced to somewhere between eight and 16 years at a hearing on Nov. 7.

In exchange for the plea, prosecutors dropped an attempted-murder charge.

While being read the plea deal, Pappas asked for a second to discuss the sentencing range with this attorneys, but then ultimately took the deal a few minutes later.

Pappas is currently in custody on $100,000 bond while he awaits sentencing.
