The Colorado Buffaloes have allowed just 14 points so far this season in wins over Colorado State and Idaho State, but they’ll face a much bigger task Saturday against No. 4 Michigan in Ann Arbor.

The Wolverines have scored 114 points through two games, led by first-year starting quarterback Wilton Speight. The junior has steadily improved, coach Jim Harbaugh said in a conference call Tuesday.

“He’s an ascending player in all regards,” Harbaugh said. “He’s been very good trying to find something every week to improve on.”

Harbaugh added: “Once he takes a step forward or two steps forward, you don’t see the step back. It’s been good continual ascending improvement and then it sticks when he makes a change.”

In blowout victories over Central Florida and Hawaii, Speight has completed 70 percent of his passes for 457 yards, seven TDs and just one interception, which came on his first pass of the season.

“I’ve been really impressed by that,” Harbaugh said of Speight ability to throw downfield. “It’s been accurate in practice, it’s been accurate in games.”

Michigan hosts Colorado at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.
