A wildfire  and which has prompted the evacuation of roughly a dozen homes was estimated at about nine acres on Wednesday and 35 percent contained.

A mass of resources have been called to battle the fire, including local, state and federal firefighting crews.

Lt. Dan Mayer of the Grand County Sheriff’s Office says a smoke report was called in to authorities about 12:20 p.m. on Tuesday. When the chief of the Kremmling Fire Protection District went to investigate, he found that a person was burning a slash pile that had gotten out of control.

The fire is off Grand County Road 14, about five miles from Kremmling. The blaze is burning in heavy timber on county land.

Mandatory evacuations are in effect within a mile of the blaze and residents within three miles of the burn are on pre-evacuation notice.
