City O’ City owner Dan Landes has purchased the Campus Lounge, a beloved no-frills restaurant and pub in Bonnie Brae, City O’ City general manager Erin Skahan confirmed on Friday.
The Campus Lounge will close on Sunday after 40 years anchoring a retail strip along the 700 block of South University Boulevard. Owner , saying he was ready to move on after 40 years in the restaurant business. Landes declined to provide any details about his plans for the space, but Wiste said the new owner plans to remodel the space.
purchased the restaurant in 1976. Originally called the Bel-Aire, it has been in the same location at 701 S. University Blvd. since 1946.
Landes opened his first vegetarian restaurant, WaterCourse Foods on East 13th Ave in 1998 (it’s now located at 837 E. 17th Ave.) He ran it until 2015, when he sold it to the . Landes switched focus to City O’ City, 206 E 13th Ave, and his vegan bakery next door, , which opened to the public on Aug. 4.
He will add the Campus Lounge to a menagerie of businesses, including a hotel in Oaxaca, Mexico, and Suspect Press, a Denver based publishing company.
