El Paso County wildfire may have been ignited by shooting

The fire prompted evacuations west of Colorado Springs

Authorities say a 14-acre wildfire near Rampart Reservoir in El Paso County might have been ignited Monday by someone shooting in the area.

“There is evidence of shooting in line with the point of origin,” said Jacqueline Kirby, spokeswoman for the county sheriff’s office.

Recreational shooting  in much of the Pike National Forest area surrounding Rampart Reservoir.

The blaze, called the Talcott fire, was 50 percent contained as of Monday evening, and all evacuations have been lifted.

The fire was spotted at about 1 p.m. Monday. Crews were working Tuesday to mop up the burn’s remnants.
