This photo, taken the morning of Dec. 6, 1913, during the great snowstorm of 1913 shows people trudging through snow at 16th Street and Welton Street. The City Tramway trolley car is hindered by the piles of snow in the street and icy electrical wires. The Daniels and Fisher building is in the distance.

The Daniels and Fisher department store on 16th Street in Denver is demolished around 1969, about two decades after the retailer vacated the building. Preservationists were able to save the 21-story clock tower, which is now on sale.

The top of this dome sits 325 feet above the ground and the crew stand on a small platform, less than 12 inches, that surrounds the dome. The Base Group, a company that specializes in work at great heights, has taken on the demanding task of repainting the dome and flagpole on the top of the Daniels and Fischer Tower at 1101 16th street in downtown Denver. The tower is 325 feet high and was built in 1910. The three man crew is scraping all the gold leaf off of the dome and then will put on a red primer and finally a coat of gold paint. The company that owns the tower eventually wants to put gold leaf on it but it is too expensive to do it right now. The crew will also paint the precariously high flagpole that sits atop the tower. The Base Group specializes in working on inaccessible structures such as stadiums, radio towers, and high rise buildings . The last time the dome of the Daniels and Fisher Tower was last painted was over 15 years ago.
