National Cat Day brings out weird, wild Rocky Mountain kitties

Show will offer nearly 200 cats representing 65 breeds

We’ve already celebrated  (on Aug. 26), so we would be tempting the anger of the internet gods if we didn’t follow up with , which arrives on Oct. 29.

To mark the occasion, the is holding its Second International Cat Association Event — a Rocky Mountain Feline “Spooktacular” featuring a three-day breed championship and household pet-cat show starting Oct. 28.

The show will offer nearly 200 cats representing 65 breeds, with vendor and show space including 16 judging rings and a “breed specific congress,” according to organizers. Judges will award daily prizes for the top 10 “Best in Show,” while cat-loving attendees can vote on their own favorites for Best in Show.

In true Halloween fashion, there will also be some bizarro cats, such as the rare, hairless Sphynx and the Lykoi, also known as the Werewolf Cat. The Breed Specific competition for Sphynx will feature international and cats from the United States, Europe and South America.

“We are proud to host a world class event again right here in Colorado,” said Blake Gipson of the Rocky Mountain Cat Club in a press statement.

Regular admission is $5, and $3 for seniors 65 and up and kids 12 and under.

Events take place 3-9 p.m. Oct. 28 and 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Oct. 29-30 at the , 3333 E. Quebec St. in Stapleton.
