Each week throughout the fall, Denver Post preps editor Kyle Newman releases his power rankings for 5A and 4A football and 5A volleyball. This week’s rankings feature a Postseason Power Five for 5A boys soccer as the sport enters state tournament play this week.

FOOTBALL (5A)

  1. Pomona (7-1)
  2. Mullen (6-2)
  3. Columbine (6-2)

BOYS SOCCER POSTSEASON POWER FIVE

  1. Boulder (15-0): The undefeated Panthers rolled to a league title in the uber-tough Front Range League, and this is a group that’s been tested in the postseason fire in previous seasons.
  2. Denver East (15-0): With a trio of potent strikers and an eight-time state champion in coach Kirk Bast, the Angels will be a tough out considering they’ve proved they can win a variety of different ways.
  3. Broomfield (12-2-1): It’d be silly to sleep on the two-time defending state champions, especially considering senior striker Armando Ocampo (11 goals) has been playing out of his mind lately.
  4. Cherry Creek (11-4): The Bruins played 5A’s toughest schedule and did not lose to an in-state opponent this fall, so the 5A field basically has no idea how dangerous this side really is.
  5. Arapahoe (11-4): The Warriors boast a balanced offensive attack and solid defense to match led by senior Evan Bunch as the Warriors look to add to the ABK legacy.
