Woman camping with Cold Spring fire suspects takes plea deal

The woman who was camping with the outside Nederland in July has been sentenced to probation and community service under a plea deal with prosecutors.

Elizabeth Burdeshaw, 21, pleaded guilty to one count of second-degree trespassing, a Class 2 misdemeanor, on Oct. 21 and was sentenced to nine months of unsupervised probation and 36 hours of community service.

According to prosecutors, Burdeshaw was camping with Jimmy Andrew Suggs, 28, and Zackary Ryan Kuykendall, 26, over the course of several nights near Nederland when one of their campfires started the , which burned more than 500 acres and destroyed eight homes.

While Kuykendall and Suggs each were charged with one count of fourth-degree arson — endangering people and one count of fourth-degree arson — endangering property, Burdeshaw only was charged with trespassing because prosecutors said there was no evidence she was directly involved in the maintaining or extinguishing of the fire.

Kuykendall and Suggs are scheduled for an arraignment on Friday. Kuykendall remains in custody on $200,000 bond, while Suggs is being held on $20,000 bond.
