A brush fire north of Denver burned more than 300 acres Sunday and destroyed two unused structures before firefighters from Brighton and nearby towns brought it under control.

Adams County sheriff’s investigators looked into the cause of the fire, near 144th Avenue and Hayesmount Road – north of Denver International Airport.

“We currently have already investigated it. There’s nothing suspicious. There is nobody in custody,” Adams County Sheriff’s spokesman Jim Morgen said Sunday night.

Weeds spreading across fields, the relatively warm temperatures and wind gusting at 15 miles per hour favored the flames. Nobody was hurt. Firefighters by dusk were dousing hot spots.

Aurora Fire officials reported a separate brush fire Sunday near the reservoir in Cherry Creek State Park – and blamed the blaze on dry conditions and wind.

It was unclear how the fires started.
