Bed Bath & Beyond swapping Cherry Creek for Glendale

Home goods retailer will relocate to Glendale from Cherry Creek Shopping Center “late next year,” a spokeswoman said

Bed Bath & Beyond is trading in its Cherry Creek digs for a former Sports Authority location just down the street in Glendale.

The New Jersey-based home goods retailer on Friday confirmed the move, which was first reported by BusinessDen. Bed Bath & Beyond will relocate from the Cherry Creek Shopping Center to a big-box retail center less than 2 miles away at South Colorado Boulevard and East Alameda Avenue.

“Cherry Creek Shopping Center is contemplating substantial redevelopment and our lease is expiring,” company spokeswoman Leah Drill said in an e-mail. “We are excited to offer customers a new shopping experience, broad assortment and outstanding customer service in our Glendale store late next year.”

Bed Bath & Beyond snagged the 44,997-square-foot space at 370 S. Colorado Blvd. during the earlier this year.

The lease was originally part of a . In Colorado, Dick’s also laid claim to the now-defunct Englewood-based retailer’s lease at Colorado Mills.

Dick’s then transferred the Glendale lease to Bed Bath & Beyond in September, according to . The Glendale retail center is also home to a PetSmart and the only Super Target in the state .

Nick LeMasters, general manager of the Cherry Creek Shopping Center, said there are no plans for redevelopment at this time.

Bed Bath & Beyond has been a tenant of the mall since 1995, located in a standalone building at East First Avenue and University Boulevard.

“We wish them success,” LeMasters said in an interview. “We’re going to start looking for a suitable replacement for that location.”
