Re: Nov. 19 news story.
Could it be any more fitting that on the same day that editorial page editor Chuck Plunkett the public for its disdain for the press, the lead article in The Denver Post is based on statistics from the Southern Poverty Law Center? Apparently rude comments and spray painting have now risen to the level of “hate crimes.” Strangely, I did not hear them called hate crimes when Donald Trump’s campaign offices were being trashed and spray painted.
I realize that The Post has to cater to its subscribers on the left, who obviously make up the majority, but it should at least try to maintain some semblance of credibility. The rise of social media and the internet have probably created financial problems for daily papers, but when a big-city paper has to resort to this nonsense as front-page material, it should close its doors and send its reporters to work at The Onion.
A free press is vital in a democratic society, but articles such as “Anxious in America” are more appropriate as “fake news” to be circulated on Facebook.
