Re: Nov. 21 news story.

I applaud the GOP’s plan to revamp the federal employee job-for-life policy.

I worked for 33 years in a huge high-tech company that pretty much had the same policy. At first the employees worked diligently. Then, as time went on, they became IPRs (in-plant retirees). They would come to work and do the minimal amount of work so as not to be fired. The company became sluggish, no longer nimble and able to switch and turn quickly to adapt to the changing marketplace and customer needs. That is exactly what has happened to our federal government.

Bravo to those politicians leading the charge for that change.

So the new Republican administration wants to control raises and fire federal employees who do not do their jobs. I trust they will show they are serious by firing those senators who failed to do their constitutionally required job of giving a hearing to Merrick Garland, President Obama’s Supreme Court nominee.
