So many bands, so little time. That’s why we invented In Question, an all-or-nothing, one question Q-and-A series.
If escaped you in 2016, we’d wager that’s going to change by this time next year.
The bayou-born septet built up some barnstorming momentum this year off the strength of their latest album, “Men Against Mountains,” whose blues-pop single “I Wish I Knew You” has led them to a tributary of mainstream recognition, including a shout out in and a number one spot on Billboard’s Adult Alternative list back.
The band’s sold-out set at Boulder’s will be the first of several chances to catch them in the coming months. In early February, they’ll play Fort Collins’ Aggie Theatre, Beaver Creek’s Vilar Performing Arts Center, Aspen’s Belly Up and Denver’s Ogden Theatre.
Below, lead singer David Shaw imagines 2016 as a concept album.
THE QUESTION IN QUESTION:
The death of some of pop’s greatest heroes, the rise of Ken Bone, in absentia of — 2016 was a rough one. If pressed to write an album on the year, what would the track list look like?
THE ANSWER:
2016 was a b*tch of a year for a lot of people in this world. There were also quite a few amazing things that happened as well.
I’d say that it would be a concept album based loosely on the power of love vs the love of power. Some song titles that come to mind:
“Fools Gold,”
“The Long Con,”
“Cheetos Don’t Mix With Politics”
“Zinnias”
“Burnin And Lootin”
“Anonymous”
“Two Black Holes”
“Fill it up”
“Protector”
