GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. — The Bureau of Land Management has sold numerous federal oil and gas leases in western Colorado though an online auction.

The Daily Sentinel reports that in all, 28 Colorado parcels covering more than 19,000 acres , generating nearly $1.6 million in sale revenues. The majority of the leases were in Mesa County, where 16,000 acres were auctioned off. Nearly 2,000 acres were auction and Garfield County and the rest were in eastern Colorado.

Black Hills Exploration & Production purchased 12 parcels at auction and Laramie energy emerged with eight. Chevron paid the highest per-acre with a $260 an acre bid on an 80-acre parcel in Garfield County.

The BLM has begun shifting to online sales this year after receiving congressional authority to do so.
