The driver of a tractor-trailer died early Tuesday in a single-vehicle, rollover crash on U.S. 285 just north of Fairplay.
The Colorado State Patrol says the crash happened about 12:45 a.m. when the white, 2012 Peterbilt truck traveled off the right side of the roadway and collided with a highway sign. Investigators say the tractor-trailer continued off road, striking a barbed-wire fence before rotating counter-clockwise and rolling a quarter time onto its side.
The State Patrol says the truck’s driver was not wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver’s name has not been released.
Authorities say alcohol is not suspected to be a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.
