Nuggets, NBA pay tribute to fallen TNT reporter Craig Sager

The Nuggets poured out condolences for beloved TNT NBA reporter Craig Sager on Thursday afternoon after the news of his death was made public.

Sager, 65, died of acute myeloid leukemia, which he battled since 2014. Sager underwent three bone marrow transplants and more than 20 chemotherapy cycles, including one that lasted for two weeks. He also had been hospitalized numerous times for pneumonia.

Nuggets coach Michael Malone opened his pregame news conference talking about Sager.

“Obviously itap a tough loss for the entire NBA family,” Malone said. “Just to see the battle he’s been through the last couple of years and how he handled that with dignity and class. I think the overwhelming support throughout his battle is a statement to his stature in the NBA community, and everybody felt that for him.”

Footnotes. is getting settled in as a member of the Sioux Falls Skyforce in the D-League after being sent there by the Nuggets. Beasley, a first-round draft pick of the team this year, scored 15 points and grabbed nine rebounds in his debut. Sioux Falls returns to action Friday. … Thursday’s game is the first of three at home for the Nuggets before they hit the road Dec. 20 to face the Clippers.
