Wild-card race
The Broncos’ loss puts their playoff chances in peril. Denver finishes at Kansas City and hosts Oakland battling for the No. 6 and last AFC playoff spot. The No. 5 seed is not possible even if the Broncos (8-6) tie Kansas City (10-4) due to tiebreakers. So, it’s a race for the No. 6 and final spot, in which the Broncos currently do not fare well in either. A look at the current wild-card picture:
Team (Record) | Remaining schedule
Currently in…
5. Chiefs (10-4) | DEN, @SD
6. Dolphins (9-5) | @BUFF, NE
Just on the outside…
7. Ravens (8-6) | @PITT, @CIN
8. Titans* (8-6) | @JAX, HOU
9. Broncos (8-6) | @KC, OAK
* – Titans are tied for the AFC South lead, but they lose the head-to-head tiebreaker to Houston
Ravens have better conference record than Titans and Broncos and currently are seventh. Titans beat the Broncos and so are eighth, with Broncos ninth.
