A teaching assistant in Greeley has been arrested on suspicion of sexual assault on a child.

Jerica Zoe Enriquez, 24, was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of sexual assault on a child by one in a position of trust and obscenity to a minor, both felonies, according to a Greeley Police Department news release.

Enriquez was hired in 2011 by Greeley-Evans School District 6 as paraprofessional special education assistant. She has worked at John Evans Middle School, Prairie Heights Middle School and, since August, at Jefferson Junior High School.

School officials contacted Greeley police about allegations of sexual contact with a junior high school student, and Enriquez was placed on paid administrative leave Dec. 5, police said.

The school district has assisted police in the investigation.

A warrant was served on Enriquez on Tuesday afternoon, police said, and she was arrested.

Enriquez, of Greeley, is being held at the Weld County jail pending an upcoming court appearance.
