A 34-year-old man with a history of threatening to kill his parents was shot in the leg by his father Wednesday evening and then arrested by Fountain police officers.

Michael Jones was booked into the El Paso County jail on suspicion of misdemeanor menacing and second-degree burglary related to the 6 p.m. conflict on the 800 block of Candlestar Loop, according to Fountain police.

Jones was shot after he refused to leave his parents’ home after acting violent and aggressive towards his father and other family members, Fountain police said.

“After threatening to kill his father, Jones was asked to leave numerous times, however, refused to do so,” Fountain police said in a news release. “Jones then advanced on his father threatening to kill him, at which time the father shot Jones once in the leg.”

Jones fled in a vehicle, but was apprehended nearby. He was treated for a non-life threatening gunshot wound before being taken to jail.

None of Jones’ family members were hurt.

Fountain police say Jones was released from prison in October after serving time related to a similar encounter with his parents in 2011 during which he fired gunshots into their home.

An investigation into the situation remains ongoing.
