Two years ago, when Meghan Bader was pregnant with her first child, the Dec. 21 due date came and went with little fanfare.
“Honestly, in our mind, we were like ‘any day but Christmas,’ ” Tony Bader said.
So, of course, it wasn’t until the night of Christmas Eve that Meghan went into labor. And baby boy Benjamin popped out just after 2 p.m., Dec. 25, 2014.
Two years later to the day, Benjamin has a new baby sister: Caroline Bader, 8 pounds, 2 ounces, born at 9:01 Christmas morning at Sky Ridge Medical Center.
This time, once they found out the due date was Dec. 23, the Baders were kind of hoping for a Christmas encore.
“It would’ve been kind of a bummer if she was born on Dec. 27,” Tony Bader said.
The odds seem astronomical. Both kids born on the same day? Let alone Christmas, of all days. It was already the Baders’ favorite holiday.
Both 33 years old, the Baders live in Centennial and are scheming for how best to celebrate. For now, the plan is to have smaller birthday trees for Benjamin and Caroline, with half the day devoted to Christmas, and half the day devoted to birthday festivities.
Then they’re considering letting the kids pick a second “birthday” for follow-up celebrations with friends. Christmas, after all, isn’t an ideal time for a birthday party with classmates.
Benjamin is still processing the whole thing.
“He was sort of confused,” Bader said. “At one point he asked: ‘Where’s momma’s baby?’ And he pointed to her belly. And we said ‘no she’s over there, and he cracked this huge smile.”
“It’s been wild,” Bader added. “We love it. Everybody says sorry. (But) we think it’s really, really special.
“We’ll just have a really exciting Christmas every year, forever.”
