Spotlight on J.J. Redick: The Clippers are in the top 10 in the league in 3-pointers attempted, and J.J. Redick is the deadliest shooter (44.4 percent) on a high-volume 3-point-shooting team. The Nuggets got an up-close view of it just a few days ago, when Redick nailed seven 3-pointers en route to a game-high 27 points.
Nuggets: Denver travels to Los Angeles for the second time in six days to try to solve the riddle of beating the Clippers, something the Nuggets haven’t done the last couple of times they’ve been to the Staples Center, including Dec. 20, when they dropped a 119-102 decision to Los Angeles. The Nuggets are still looking to bounce back. They lost 109-108 to the Atlanta Hawks on Dec. 23. Wilson Chandler missed a short, running jumper that would have given the Nuggets a win at the buzzer in that one. Danilo Gallinari scored 21 points and had a season-high 11 rebounds in that game, although he was not on the court during crunchtime. This is just one of two road games for the Nuggets in the next two weeks. They have four home games in that span.
Clippers: The L.A. Clippers were handed the holiday double by the NBA, playing back-to-back games on Christmas Day against the Lakers and then the Nuggets the next day. This ends a stretch of three games in four days, which began with a loss to Dallas on Dec. 23. Paul Pierce has been starting in place of injured star Blake Griffin. DeAndre Jordan has been consistently good on the glass and defensively this season. Going into Sunday’s game, he was fourth in rebounding (13.0), 10th in blocks (1.8) and second in the league in field-goal percentage (65.7 percent).
