Littleton Fire Rescue battled a fire at a Chili’s restaurant in Highlands Ranch that caused lane closures in both directions on University Boulevard between County Line Road and C-470 Tuesday afternoon to early evening.

When the lanes were reopened, some smoke remained visible. The fire started around 2:30 p.m., and the cause is still under investigation, Littleton fire spokeswoman Jackie Erwin said. Everyone was evacuated safely, she said.

The city’s twitter account confirmed that the building partially collapsed. Several units fought the flames, including South Metro Fire Rescue.

An earlier tweet from South Metro Fire Rescue showed billowing smoke obscuring visibility as it crossed the street.
