In a game high on emotion, the Broncos endured a scare as one of their own fell face down after a hit and transported to the hospital by ambulance with a neck injury Sunday.
With about five minutes remaining in the third quarter, linebacker Zaire Anderson went in for a hit on running back Jalen Richardson as he was tackled on a punt return. But instead of hitting Richardson, Anderson’s helmet rammed into the side of fellow linebacker Quentin Gause.
Anderson lay on the field for a few minutes as trainers examined him. Then he was strapped onto a backboard and loaded onto cart, with coach Gary Kubiak standing over him and talking to him throughout.
Immediately after leaving the field, Anderson was taken by ambulance to undergo further evaluation where tests came back negative.
“All indications of the tests are normal,” Kubiak said. “He did talk to me on the field. He was moving his extremities and stuff. Itap my understanding that he hit one of his own guys. I didn’t see the play. All indications are right now that Zaire is doing pretty well.”
