Facebook virtual-reality tour makes immersive stop at Denver airport

For the tech company, it’s also a way to promote its $2 billion acquisition of virtual reality company Oculus

Virtual reality takes viewers to a new dimension that can be hard to describe. So Facebook is offering demonstrations of special goggles at Denver International Airport through Jan. 24.

The temporary exhibit, staffed by Facebook workers, is in the  between Denver Duty Free and Chef Jimmy’s, according to a Facebook spokesperson.

The curious can try on a pair of Samsung Gear VR goggles for free to get a better sense of what immersive 360-degree video feels like. Facebook has attendees on hand between 10 to 6 p.m. daily to show people how it all works. And those who try the virtual reality demo “will be guided through several virtual worlds and will be able to leave with a GIF of themselves in VR to share with friends,” according to a company statement.

For Facebook, it’s also a way to , which develops technology for the virtual reality world. Last year, it partnered with Samsung to develop Samsung Gear VR for certain Samsung smartphones.

The DIA stop is part of a 30-city tour, which included a three-day stop at Boulder’s Pearl Street Mall in early December and a three-day stop at Copper Mountain in mid-December.

Other city stops include Alpharetta, Ga.; Annapolis, Md.; Arlington, Va.; Atlanta; Austin, Texas; Baton Rouge, La.; Birmingham, Ala.; Boston, Mass.; Charlotte, N.C.; Chicago; Dallas; Glendale, Ariz.; Jacksonville, Fla.; Louisville, Ky.; Nashville, Tenn.; New York; North Hills Raleigh, N.C.; Oxford, Miss.; Panama City Beach, Fla.; Paramus, N.J.; Philadelphia; Phoenix; San Diego; Silver Springs, Md.; St. Louis; Queens, N.Y.; and Washington.
