President-elect Donald Trump answers questions from the media after a day of meetings on Dec. 28, 2016 at Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida.Instead of draining the swamp, Trump is filling it with billionaires, racists, and industry insiders with widespread conflicts of interest:
- Senior Adviser Stephen Bannon has a history of antisemitism and ran a website with strong connections to white supremacists.
- State nominee Rex Tillerson ran ExxonMobil, an oil company with a history of denying climate change and causing spills like the Exxon Valdez.
- EPA nominee Scott Pruitt fought air and water protections and has helped Big Oil turn Oklahoma into an earthquake zone.
- Billionaire Special Adviser Carl Icahn has vast fossil fuel holdings and has shown he is more interested in gutting companies for his personal profit than he is creating jobs.
- Energy nominee Rick Perry advocated for the Energy department to be eliminated and is on the payroll of the company that attacked Indigenous people to forcibly construct the Dakota Access Pipeline.
- Interior nominee Ryan Zinke champions increasing fossil fuel development on public lands and champions corporate profits over the health and safety of people and the planet.
