Still have a once-live Christmas tree hanging around? Here’s where you can get it turned into mulch

And you can already pick up free mulch in some places

The last needle may not have dropped from your by-now-crisp Christmas tree, but very little time remains for Denver residents to get their once-live trees hauled to a mulching center for free.

Under the city’s , people can still set out live trees by 7 a.m. on Jan. 14 to be collected on Saturday or Sunday. Trees should not be placed in bags, carts or dumpsters. Trees should be set at least 2 feet from trash or recycling carts and other obstacles.

Going to miss the collection deadline? Denverites can still drop off once live trees – minus decorations and tree stands — to be turned into mulch that is available for free at the Annual Treecycle Mulch Giveaway. The drop-off points are open through Jan. 31:

• 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at at East Cherry Creek Drive South and South Quebec Street.

• 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at Havana Nursery, 1045 Smith Road, just south of Interstate 70 and Havana Street. Enter from the Smith Road side and follow signs for Treecycle. The drop off is closed on Jan. 16.

Here are some other city mulching programs that still are accepting trees:

The city of Arvada has three free Christmas tree drop-off points. Residents can pick up mulch later this year at the same locations. For details, call the Arvada Parks Department at Parks Department at 720-898-7410.

• 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday at the City Parks Maintenance Shop, 7800 W. 62nd Ave. through Jan. 20.
• 24/7 at Lake Arbor Lake Park, 6400 Pomona Drive, through Jan. 22.
• 24/7 at Lutz Sports Complex, at West 58th Avenue and Miller Street, through Jan. 22.

The . Trees are ground and used to mulch city planters, beds and trees. For more information, contact the Forestry Division at 303-205-7556. Last year, about 1,500 trees were turned into mulch. Drop your once-live tree of between sunrise and sunset at:

• Prospect Park, 11300 W. 44th Ave., south of the tennis courts
• Panorama Park, West 35th Avenue and Fenton Street, east of the baseball fields

, trees can be dropped off through Jan. 15. Mulch is also available at these locations, while supplies last:

• Dad Clark Park, 3385 Asterbrook Circle
• Redstone Park, 3280 Redstone Park Circle
• Toepfer Park, 9480 Venneford Ranch Road

Residents of Boulder and unincorporated Boulder County can drop off trees at the Western Disposal Yard Waste Drop-off Site, 5880 Butte Mill Road, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and Saturdays 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Drop off is free through Jan. 31. If you miss the deadline, you’ll pay to dispose of your tree, typically less than $1. Tree mulch is available for free later in the year.

6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday through Feb. 3 and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Jan. 28. at the Lafayette Service Center, 1700 Avalon Ave.

Western Disposal will do curbside collection of trees in Louisville on Jan. 12 and 26.

at the Yard Waste Recycling Facility, 2125 Honey Creek Lane. The drop off is open 4 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesdays; 8 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays; and 8 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sundays.

, 575 Kattell St. in Erie, through Jan. 15. Free mulch distribution begins – weather permitting – in the same location on Jan. 17. Distribution is first come, first served through Feb. 5.

The Town of Frederick is accepting trees through Jan. 15 in the parking lot at the southeast corner of Centennial Park, 630 Eighth Street.

. The drop-off at Firestone Public Works building, 7500 Pine Cone Ave., is open 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
