Police have arrested a suspect on suspicion of second-degree murder in the Tuesday death of a 39-year-old man who was assaulted a week before.

Matthew Allan Stroker, 34, is being held at the El Paso County jail in the slaying of Edward Lyles.

Colorado Springs police say Lyles was found unresponsive Jan. 4 on the 4300 block of Northpark Drive and taken to a hospital with head trauma. Investigators say he had been assaulted the day before by Stroker, who was taken into custody on Jan. 8.

Lyles died from his injuries on Tuesday, and an autopsy found his manner of death was homicide.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call the Colorado Springs Police Department at 719-444-7000. Tipsters can also remain anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at 719-634-7867.
