The Rapids are close to a deal to bring free-agent striker Alan Gordon to Colorado for the 2017 season, a league source confirmed Friday.
Rapids sporting director Padraig Smith last week said the club was confident it would finalize deals with a number of attacking players during the winter transfer window.
“One of the things we do look for is pace and power,” Smith said.
Gordon would fit under the latter. The 6-foot-1, 190-pound striker is an aerial threat who can be extremely dangerous on set pieces. He has 52 goals in 245 career MLS games (129 starts).
The 35-year-old has 13 years of MLS experience with the Los Angeles Galaxy, Chivas USA, Toronto FC and San Jose Earthquakes and could provide veteran leadership inside the locker room. Last season, with the Galaxy, Gordon had three goals and an assist in 22 games (seven starts).
Gordon was called in to the U.S. national team in November for World Cup qualifying matches. He has two career caps.
