An armed carjacker high on drugs who led police on a dangerous rush-hour chase, including driving the wrong way on I-25, has been sentenced to 64 years in prison as a habitual criminal.
Grant Robert Lee, 32, of Denver was sentenced last week in Arapahoe County District Court.
In January 2016, a jury found Lee guilty of 13 counts, including felony aggravated robbery and reckless driving. In July, the court found Lee to be a habitual criminal based on three prior felony convictions, according to the district attorney’s office.
He was sentenced Friday by District Judge Peter Frederick Michaelson.
On June 3, 2014, Lee used a box cutter to carjack a vehicle from a couple in an Aurora store parking lot on East Mississippi Avenue near Interstate 225.
Lee, who had ingested cocaine and methamphetamine that day, fled the lot at about 5 p.m., leading police on a chase at speeds over 90 mph.
At one point, the carjacked vehicle driven by Lee hit another vehicle. After the crash, Lee drove north in the southbound lanes of I-25. He drove off the highway at Evans, got out of the damaged vehicle and tried to carjack two more vehicles.
Police caught up to Lee, and he was arrested.
