
As the nation prepares for its new president to take office, Coloradans on both sides of the aisle plan to host inauguration day events that range from a black-tie ball in celebration to a punk concert in protest.
The Denver Republican Party has planned to watch President-elect Donald Trump drop the elect from his title. The event at Pete’s Greek Town Cafe starts at 9 a.m., an hour before the inauguration. It is free, and participants buy their own breakfasts. Organizers said anywhere between 65 to 90 people are expected.
The Lincoln Club of Colorado has sold out tickets to the Colorado Inaugural Ball on Friday evening at the Marriott Denver Tech Center. Several Republican politicians are hosting the formal evening, including State Treasurer Walker Stapleton and Attorney General Cynthia Coffman.
Conversely, several groups on the other side of the political spectrum have planned either protests or solidarity acts on the day of the inauguration.
A peaceful protest is planned from 9-11:30 a.m. at the Capitol. The says roughly 1,400 people are planning to attend and says agitators will not be welcomed.
will donate $1 from each “Makin’ Noise: A Pussy Riot Beer” sold to One Colorado from noon until 11 p.m. The brewery encourages people to raise a glass in solidarity with the fight for equality. Other breweries are selling iterations of the imperial saison, including Black Sky Brewery, 3 Freaks Brewery and Brewability Lab.
A concert called will be held from 7-10 p.m. at Summit Music Hall. The all-ages event is $10.
