Colorado’s Republican congressmen purport to explain why Obamacare repeal is necessary, but the reasons they provide fail to explain why repeal is appropriate, rather than targeted fixes. A more honest “reality check” would have noted that Republican opposition to the law was originally rooted in a plan to deny the president any cooperation so as to hand him a political defeat, and that repeal is the best way to roll back billions of dollars in high-income taxes that have significantly expanded access to insurance and health care. In short, insistence on repeal is driven by both petulance and a desire to reduce federal contributions to health care. Without this money, the simple reality is that Republican proposals will never provide as much coverage as the current system.
