U.S. oil and gas producers deployed 35 additional rigs last week, bringing the total count to 694, according to Houston oil field services company Baker Hughes.
That was the most rigs the country has seen added since the week of Aug. 12, 2011. But none of those units went to Colorado, where the rig count remained unchanged at 28.
Texas producers added the most rigs, 17, primarily into the Permian Basin, which is viewed as the country’s hottest petroleum play right now.
Oklahoma gained seven rigs the past week, while three were added in North Dakota. Ohio gained two, while Utah, New Mexico, Pennsylvania and West Virginia added one each.
Despite the sharp rise, the U.S. rig count remains below the 698 that were at work at the start of 2016.
