Authorities are investigating after Fort Collins police shot a suspect armed with a gun early Saturday when they responded to a report of a stabbing and burglary in a residential neighborhood.
Two officers were the first to arrive on the scene in the 1600 block of Hastings Drive following a 9-1-1 call at 8:09 a.m. reporting a burglary in progress. The caller reported that he came out of his room and saw an unknown assailant stabbing his roommate, police said.
When the officers approached, a standoff occurred after the suspect, armed with a gun, came out of the home, according to police. One officer fired several shots, striking the suspect. The suspect was transported to the Medical Center of the Rockies. The extent of the suspect’s injuries and the suspect’s name were not immediately available.
Officers found no other individuals inside the house. The officers, who were wearing body cameras, were not injured, police said.
The 8th Judicial District Critical Incident Response Team is investigating the incident, which is standard when police shootings occur. Those with information about the incident who have not already spoken to police have been asked to call 970-416-1985 to talk to Sgt. Robert Heffernan.
Officers found no other individuals inside the home.
