With its first weekend barely in the books, Colorado’s documentary film scene has already made waves at Park City, Utah’s 2017 Sundance Film Festival.

Ahead of the film’s Saturday premiere at the festival, Netflix announced it had purchased “Chasing Coral,” a documentary on climate change’s deleterious effects on the world’s coral reefs.

Filmed over three years in 30 countries, “Chasing Coral” was produced by Jeff Orlowski and his Boulder-based film production company , whose last documentary, 2012’s “Chasing Ice,” was also distributed on Netflix.

“Chasing Coral” is the second Colorado documentary Netflix has purchased from this year’s Sundance Film Festival. It follows Kitty Green’s  which will debut on the streaming network this spring.
