Re: Jan. 21 news story.

Donald Trump likes to brag about the size of the crowds that attend his campaign events and inauguration. By my calculation, the size of the marches held around the world on Saturday easily exceeded the totals of all of his events. Yet, he scarcely acknowledged the participants by deriding their actions. What a bold act of leadership it would have been had he had taken the opportunity to commend them on a well-attended, peaceful demonstration while affirming their fears, concerns and aspirations, then proposed solutions.

In 1973, President Richard Nixon’s press secretary, Ron Ziegler, used the term “inoperative statement” as a euphemism for lie. President Donald Trump’s adviser, Kellyanne Conway, has just surpassed that nonsense with the phrase “alternative facts” in reference to press secretary Sean Spicer’s absurd claim that Trump’s crowds were “the largest audience to ever witness an inauguration.” Here we go again.
