The Weld County Coroner has identified the body of a man found Wednesday underwater in a car as that of the man reported missing to the Fort Lupton police in December.

His death is the subject of an ongoing investigation by the Colorado State Patrol.

According to a news release from the Fort Lupton Police Department, the last time anyone saw Brian Erives, 23, was about 4 a.m. Dec. 25. Officers were unable to find him until a bicyclist about 1:30 p.m. Tuesday reported an overturned car off Colo. 52 between Weld County roads 41 and 43, just west of Hudson.

The car, which was underwater, was a green Volkswagon Jetta. It matched the description of the care Erives drove.

The Weld County Sheriff’s office responded to the scene, and Cpl. Matt Turner confirmed deputies asked for a water rescue team as well. The team found the body of a man inside the car, later identified as Erives.
