Denver Health and Hospital Authority has selected a Pennsylvania hospital leader as the sole finalist for its vacant CEO position, meaning she will ascend to the safety-net hospital’s top spot in two weeks.

Dz¾ٳٱԲٱ𾱲 as the chief population health officer for Penn State Health, a network of more than a dozen academic and clinical hospitals in central Pennsylvania. Denver Health’s board of directors approved her hiring in a vote Thursday night, according to a news release.

“Robin Wittenstein is a seasoned executive leader and educator with a proven track record of leading large health care systems, a safety net institution and academic medical centers,” Rus Heise, the chairman of the Denver Health and Hospital Authority board, said in a statement.

Wittenstein has a doctorate in education from George Washington University. She previously worked as the president and CEO of a large academic medical center in New Jersey.

Denver Health enlisted a national search firm in its hunt for a new CEO, of previous CEO Arthur Gonzalez last year. The firm came up with 20 names, which a search committee at Denver Health reviewed, according to the news release.

Denver Health spokeswoman Kelli Christensen said state law requires public institutions to name a finalist or finalists for leadership positions for two weeks prior to making the hiring formal.

“As an educator and a leader,”  Wittenstein said in a statement, “I am committed to Denver Health’s safety net distinction and passionate about bringing together my experience in academic medicine and education for the benefit of the Denver community.”
